Thanks to its position facing England, the Opal Coast and, more generally, the shores of the North Sea, occupied an important place in the German defence system during the Second World War. In fact, a blockhaus at Eperlecques, about 30 minutes from Camping La Bien Assise, served as the base for launching V-2 rockets at London.
You can still visit the blockhaus today where you will discover a whole facet of the history of the Second World War. Likewise, the Coupole, located 5 minutes from Saint-Omer, is an immense bunker built by the German to launch V-2 rockets. You can now go on an exciting tour of it, including a 360° screening room which looks back at the history of V-2 rockets and the space race.
